A low-key wedding filled with Greek traditions, family connection and an unexpected sunset that became one of my favourite moments of the year.

Some weddings are memorable because of the venue.

Others because of the styling.

Some because of the party.

I remember Blake and Patrice's wedding because it felt completely and unapologetically like them.

If you looked at their wedding plans on paper, you might have overlooked it.

A public reserve overlooking the ocean.

A reception at the local pub.

Nothing extravagant.

Nothing over-the-top.

But that's exactly what made it special.

The focus was never on impressing anyone.

The focus was on celebrating with the people they loved.

And you could feel that from the moment I arrived.

Blake is an avid photographer himself, which always adds a little extra pressure. Photographing another photographer's wedding is a unique experience because you know they understand what goes into creating great images.

What stood out most wasn't the locations or the logistics.

It was how comfortable they were being themselves.

No walls.

No performance.

No pretending.

Just two people completely focused on each other, their daughter and the people who mattered most to them.

One of my favourite parts of the day happened before the ceremony.

Patrice comes from a Greek family and wanted to incorporate some traditional Greek celebrations before everything officially began.

I'd never photographed some of these traditions before, so I arrived early to capture them.

The energy was incredible.

Family members everywhere.

Laughter.

Celebration.

Generations coming together.

It added so much meaning to the day and reminded me how powerful family traditions can be.

The ceremony itself was beautiful.

The speeches were thoughtful.

The guests brought amazing energy.

But the moment I'll always remember happened completely unexpectedly.

During the reception, a guest unfortunately had a medical episode and an ambulance was called.

Thankfully he was okay, just embarrassed more than anything.

While everyone was waiting and the reception timing shifted, I went downstairs to check on Blake and Patrice.

That's when I noticed the sky.

This particular location isn't known for spectacular sunsets.

In fact, sunset photos weren't really part of the plan at all.

But somehow the sky absolutely exploded with colour.

I suggested we quickly sneak out for a few photos while everyone was waiting.

What followed was one of the most beautiful sunsets I've seen all year.

The timing was perfect.

The colours were incredible.

And the photos we created in those few minutes ended up becoming some of my favourites from the entire gallery.

It's funny how often the best moments aren't planned.

If the day had unfolded exactly according to schedule, those photographs wouldn't exist.

My favourite image from the day wasn't even one of the sunset photos.

At one point, I encouraged Blake and Patrice to give me their best editorial fashion-magazine look.

They lasted about two seconds.

Then they both burst out laughing.

The real moment immediately became better than the posed one.

That's who they were.

Authentic.

Genuine.

Loving.

And every time they stopped trying to be something else, the photos became stronger.

If there's one thing future couples can learn from Blake and Patrice, it's this:

Do it your way.

Invite the people who truly matter.

Celebrate your culture.

Celebrate your family.

And don't be afraid to create a wedding that reflects who you are rather than what everyone else expects.

This wedding reminded me that families are powerful.

And that friends are often the family we choose.

Keep both close.

Stay true to who you are.

Everything else tends to fall into place.

My Favourite Moment

A completely unexpected sunset that only happened because the reception was briefly delayed.

Sometimes the best moments aren't on the timeline.

One Thing Future Couples Can Learn

Do it your way. The weddings people remember most are usually

the ones that feel authentic to the couple.
