"The venue doesn't feel like a business. It feels like a place where people genuinely care about creating memorable experiences."

Settlers Rest
Some wedding venues impress you immediately.
Others slowly reveal their charm as the day unfolds.
Settlers Rest does both.
Tucked away amongst wide open countryside, it feels like a hidden pocket of Australia that somehow escaped being discovered by the rest of the world.
It's private.
It's welcoming.
And from the moment you arrive, it feels like you've been invited into someone else's family.
That's what makes it special.
Fun. Country. Personal.
If I had to describe Settlers Rest in three words, they'd be:
Fun.
Country.
Personal.
Everything about the venue feels genuine.
Nothing feels overly polished.
Nothing feels staged.
It's simply a beautiful property designed for people to come together, celebrate and enjoy each other's company.
Perfect For Couples Who Love Country Life
Settlers Rest is ideal for couples who value people over luxury.
The kind of couples who:
- Love wide open spaces
- Enjoy camping and the outdoors
- Want a relaxed wedding atmosphere
- Value connection over extravagance
- See weddings as a weekend experience rather than a single day
It's a venue where muddy boots feel more at home than polished dress shoes.
And I mean that as a compliment.
What Makes Settlers Rest Different?
The feeling.
The moment you arrive, you immediately feel welcomed.
Not by a venue.
By people.
There's a warmth here that's difficult to explain until you've experienced it.
Everything feels personal.
The venue doesn't feel like a business.
It feels like a place where people genuinely care about creating memorable experiences.
Why I Love Photographing Weddings Here
Honestly?
I've probably had more fun at Settlers Rest than almost any other Hunter venue I've worked at.
There's something adventurous about moving around the property.
Exploring different areas.
Finding beautiful light.
Discovering new photo locations.
The couples who choose Settlers Rest also tend to be some of the most relaxed and genuine people I've worked with.
The focus is never on appearances.
It's always on enjoying the day.
And that's exactly how I like it.
What Guests Love Most
The complete experience.
Getting to Settlers Rest can feel like a bit of a journey.
But once you're there, you don't need to leave.
Guests settle in.
Campers set up for the weekend.
Families gather around together.
The celebrations continue long after the formalities end.
I've also never seen so many four-wheel drives parked at a wedding venue.
Which probably tells you everything you need to know about the type of people who love this place.
The Hidden Advantage
The space.
And more specifically, the amount of usable space.
There are wide open paddocks.
Beautiful ceremony locations.
Sunset viewpoints.
Open landscapes in every direction.
Couples often arrive expecting a charming country venue.
What they don't realise is just how much room there is to breathe.
And how many incredible photo opportunities are hidden throughout the property.
The Venue Team
The team at Settlers Rest is genuinely one of the best I've worked with.
Fun.
Passionate.
Supportive.
And completely invested in creating a great experience.
One wedding in particular stands out.
The coordinator didn't simply point us toward photo locations.
She jumped into the adventure with us.
She rode around with us in a Mini Moke.
Showed us hidden spots around the property.
And even filmed some fun handheld camcorder footage for the couple.
It felt less like working with venue staff and more like spending time with part of the wedding team.
My Favourite Settlers Rest Memory
It's not one specific moment.
It's a feeling.
I've only photographed one wedding here so far, but what stood out was how calm everything felt.
The atmosphere was incredibly relaxed.
There was a collective sense that no problem was too big.
If something went wrong, someone would help.
If something needed moving, someone would move it.
Everyone seemed willing to pitch in.
That spirit of community stayed with me long after the wedding ended.
My Favourite Photo Location
The ceremony area is stunning.
The tall greenery surrounding it creates a beautiful backdrop.
But my favourite location sits elsewhere.
An open paddock on the far side of the property.
Nothing fancy.
Nothing elaborate.
Just wide open country landscape and beautiful sunset light.
It's simple.
And it's spectacular.
Is Settlers Rest Right For You?
This venue isn't trying to be luxury.
The accommodation is comfortable rather than extravagant.
The location is remote.
The summers are hot.
The winters are cold.
And you're a fair distance from nearby towns.
But if those things don't bother you, you'll discover something special.
Because Settlers Rest offers something many venues can't:
A genuine sense of belonging.
Settlers Rest vs Greystone vs Glenworth
Greystone feels like a beautifully designed estate focused on bringing families together.
Glenworth feels adventurous, rugged and distinctly Australian.
Settlers Rest sits somewhere in between.
It has the relaxed country atmosphere of Glenworth, combined with the community-focused feeling of Greystone.
But ultimately, it has its own personality.
One built around good people, open spaces and unforgettable weekends.
Final Thoughts
Settlers Rest is special because it combines beautiful country scenery with one of the most dedicated venue teams I've ever worked alongside.
It's fun.
It's welcoming.
And it reminds you that weddings don't need luxury to feel extraordinary.
Sometimes all you need is a beautiful place, your favourite people and enough space to enjoy both.
